Ray Hooper

Land surveyor

Educated at Otago University and the Auckland Technical Institute, Ray Hooper has been involved with land surveying for more than 30 years, and has worked on survey projects in New Zealand, Australia, England and America Samoa.

Ray was hooked when, in the 1970s, a vocational guidance teacher pointed out to him that he could use both his talent for mathematics and his love of the outdoors as a land surveyor – which meant he would also be following in his grandfather’s footsteps.

He particularly enjoys exceptional challenges in the engineering and construction area, such as calibrating the large crude tanks at Marsden Point Oil Refinery.

Outside of work he is a keen diver and competes in show jumping and horse treks.
